House Cleaning Checklist: Room by Room
Whether you're cleaning yourself or want to know what a professional covers, this room-by-room checklist makes sure nothing gets missed.
Kitchen
The kitchen earns the most attention: wipe and disinfect counters and backsplash, clean the sink and faucet, wipe the stovetop and the exterior of the oven, microwave (inside and out), and other appliance fronts. Wipe cabinet faces, clear and wipe the table, empty the trash, and sweep and mop the floor. For the heavy jobs — inside the oven or fridge — see how to deep clean a kitchen.
Bathrooms
Scrub and disinfect the toilet inside and out, clean the shower and tub (including glass and any tile), wipe the sink, counter, and fixtures, and polish the mirror. Wipe cabinet fronts, restock and straighten, empty the trash, and clean the floor. Descaling and grout detail go a step further — our bathroom deep clean guide covers it.
Bedrooms
Dust all surfaces — nightstands, dressers, sills, and accessible ledges — along with lamps and picture frames. Make the beds (or change linens if requested), tidy visible clutter, wipe mirrors, empty wastebaskets, and vacuum or mop the floor, including under accessible furniture.
We match you with a vetted house cleaning professional who works to exactly this standard. Request a quote.
Living Areas
Dust surfaces, shelves, electronics, and decor; wipe tables and hard surfaces; fluff and straighten cushions; spot-clean visible marks; and vacuum upholstery and floors, reaching corners and edges. Clear cobwebs and wipe light switches and other high-touch points.
Whole-Home Tasks
A few tasks span every room: high-touch surfaces (switches, handles, remotes), visible cobwebs, interior glass on request, baseboards and door frames on a deeper visit, and a final floor pass throughout. On a deep clean these detail items are standard; on a maintenance visit they're rotated or added as needed. Not sure which you need? Compare standard vs. deep cleaning.
