How Much Does Wood Floor Cleaning Cost?
Wood floor cleaning is priced on the area and how far you take it — a maintenance clean, a deep clean, or a full recoat. Here's how the number is built.
How Wood Floor Cleaning Is Priced
Wood floor cleaning is generally priced per square foot, with the rate driven by which service level you need, the floor's finish, and its condition. A light maintenance clean is at the low end; a deep clean with a recoat is the most involved. A service minimum applies to smaller areas.
The Three Service Levels
- Maintenance clean — a pH-neutral cleaner and soft pad or brush for routine upkeep; the most affordable option.
- Deep clean & neutralize — a wood-floor degreaser plus a neutralizing rinse (a two-step process) that removes years of buildup; mid-range.
- Deep clean + recoat — everything above, plus a fresh protective coat of acrylic or polyurethane; the top end, and where dull floors are truly restored.
Typical Ranges
As a rough guide in the Los Angeles area, a maintenance clean runs about $0.30–$0.60 per square foot, a deep clean & neutralize around $0.60–$1.00, and a deep clean with a recoat roughly $0.80–$2.00 depending on the coating. A whole-home wood floor project commonly lands anywhere from a few hundred dollars for a clean to $2,000+ for a large home with a full recoat.

Acrylic vs. Polyurethane Recoat
If you recoat, the coating choice moves the price. Acrylic is more economical and cures faster — a great refresh. Polyurethane costs more but delivers a more durable, higher-quality finish that lasts longer. The right choice depends on your floor and how hard it's used; our guide on fine hardwood & finish care covers the trade-offs. Note this is cleaning and recoating — not a full sand-and-refinish, which is a separate, costlier trade.
