House Cleaning in Malibu Colony

The Malibu Colony is the gated beach enclave west of Malibu Lagoon State Beach, south of Malibu Road. It began in 1926, when May Rindge started leasing about a mile of her beach to film stars on ten-year terms — the actress Anna Q. Nilsson was the first — and the lots were later sold outright. Today it holds roughly 100 to 120 homes, about half on the beach and half on the land side, many on lots around 30 feet wide with houses built nearly to the lot lines.

Visitors pass a guardhouse and must be on a resident’s gate list, and there is little parking inside. Listed homes run from about 2,500 to 4,800 sq ft, a mix of preserved older beach houses and renovated modern ones. The beach is a narrow sand spit with long-term erosion, fronted by a continuous wood bulkhead along dozens of properties; the public can walk in along the sand from the lagoon.

Entry runs through the guardhouse, so the professional is added to the gate list once; the same professional returns each visit. NDAs are available. Salt, sand and marine damp work on every surface. Water comes from Los Angeles County Waterworks District 29, at 140 to 234 mg/L of average hardness by source (2025 report), enough to spot glass and fixtures.
