House Cleaning in Serra Retreat

Serra Retreat is a gated canyon neighborhood in the City of Malibu (90265), on Malibu Creek in lower Malibu Canyon and part of Sweetwater Mesa, entered from a gatehouse on Serra Road just north of Pacific Coast Highway, across from Surfrider Beach. It takes its name from the Franciscan Serra Retreat, which in 1942 bought the unfinished Rindge mansion on the hill above. About 100 homes sit on lots from under half an acre to four acres, most of them an acre or less, on a private road kept by the property owners’ association.

The city’s general plan calls it a wooded canyon, and the homes range “from small to large”: listings run from about 1,900 to 9,100 sq ft, built from 1949 to the 2010s, with raised lots on the mesa looking out to the ocean. The canyon has seen hard years. In December 2024 the Franklin Fire, which started on Malibu Canyon Road, destroyed homes on Palm Canyon Lane and Cross Creek Road, and in February 2025 storm debris flows hit the same streets.

Water comes from Los Angeles County Waterworks District 29: 140 to 234 mg/L of average hardness by source (2025 report), enough to spot glass and fixtures.
